3 Injured Following Series of Collisions in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 4, 2019) – Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon following a series of collisions including a man who was struck by a vehicle on the 805 Freeway near the 5 Freeway.
Earlier, witnesses reported seeing a blue Nissan 350Z race another vehicle before the Nissan became disabled either near or in the fast lane; however, the California Highway Patrol has ruled out street racing and DUI as causes of the collision that happened around 2 p.m. that day.
According to news reports, the driver of the Nissan suddenly stopped in a lane and exited the car. CHP confirmed that the Nissan became disabled and the driver got out of the car after pulling over to the side of the road. Subsequently, the Nissan and the driver who was standing next to the vehicle was hit, sending the driver nearly 135 feet before landing on the pavement. The man suffered severe head injuries.
Not long after, another car struck the Nissan and another vehicle described as a Jeep struck the debris on the road totaling up to four cars involved in the pileup.
A total of three people suffered injuries and were hospitalized. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
