Samual Clopton Arrested in Violent Vehicle Crash on Sprague Avenue [Spokane, WA]

Spokane, WA (September 20, 2024) On Friday evening, Samual Clopton was arrested after causing a vehicle crash on Sprague Avenue that left several injured people.

According to Spokane police, they arrested a man Friday night after he drove a minivan into pedestrians and crashed into the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery on East Sprague.

Witnesses reported the incident, prompting a quick response from authorities.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the minivan resting against the nursery building, with two injured people nearby. Additionally, two other injured men were found lying on the road. However, the driver was not present at the scene.

A woman who was a passenger in the vehicle told police that the driver, known to her only as “Sam,” had left the scene. Officers located the man, later identified as Samual Clopton, shortly afterward at 2nd and Arthur. Clopton initially denied involvement in the crash, claiming he was on his way to meet his girlfriend.

Officers arrested Clopton for hit-and-run after noticing broken glass on his back and in his hair, which matched evidence of a recent car accident. During the arrest, officers discovered pills in Clopton’s pocket, which he identified as Vicodin, along with a plastic bag containing methamphetamine and fentanyl. Clopton’s passenger admitted they had smoked meth earlier that day.

One of the pedestrians hit by the vehicle was sitting at a bus stop when the minivan swerved toward him, leaving him unconscious until he woke up in the emergency room. The second pedestrian, who had been walking home from church, suffered cuts to his face and head, as well as knee and wrist pain.

Clopton was booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of hit-and-run, driving while intoxicated (DWI), and possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
