Child Critically Injured, Salvador Barnes Arrested in Moreno Valley DUI Crash
Moreno Valley, CA (January 30, 2021) – On Thursday, a child was critically injured while police arrested 44-year-old Salvador Barnes of Moreno Valley in a DUI crash on Heacock Street.
The accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. at the intersection with Ironwood Avenue.
Barnes lost control of his vehicle, which swerved off the road and plowed into a light standard.
Immediately, rescuers took the unidentified 6-year-old child to Riverside University Medical Center in critical condition.
Similarly, responders also rushed Barnes to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Authorities arrested him after being treated in the hospital.
Police did not say if Barnes was wearing a seatbelt or if the child was strapped into a safety seat during the accident.
Meanwhile, AAA said children passengers under 8-years-old must legally be in child safety seats.
Furthermore, police booked Barnes into Robert Presley Jail in Riverside on suspicion of driving under the influence, DUI resulting in injuries, and child endangerment resulting in great bodily injury with $90,000 bail.
