Salvador Almeda and Four Others Killed in Vehicle Collision on Highway 59 [Live Oak County, TX]

Injuries Reported in Fatal Collision Near George West

Live Oak County, TX (January 11, 2023) – On December 30, 2022, Salvador Almeda, 47, Ilda Briones, 58, and Honorio Lazo, 74, all from Ganado, Texas, lost their lives in a collision on Highway 59.

According to the investigators, the collision happened at 6:20 p.m. near George West about 60 miles northwest of Corpus Christi.

Sgt. Guadalupe Casarez of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said that a minivan was southbound when it reportedly tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. 

Unfortunately, the vehicle collided head-on with the SUV and was hit by the third vehicle.

The minivan driver, Xochitl Lopez, 39, of Houston, and her 12-year-old daughter Sulema, both died at the scene.

Moreover, two children in the van, a 5-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, were rushed to the hospital with broken bones.

The sixth person who died was a passenger in the sedan. Officers have not yet released the identity of the victim.

Also, Lopez’s two children and three other people were rushed to a hospital with “non-incapacitating injuries.

In the meantime, officers are investigating the cause of the fatal collision near George West. Officers don’t believe that alcohol was a factor in the deadly collision.
