Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Train in Salinas
SALINAS, CA (March 6, 2019) – A pedestrian died Tuesday afternoon after an Amtrak train struck the man at Harris Road and Abbott Street.
The incident happened at approximately 2:13 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian was wearing headphones and had his back turned to an approaching Amtrak Coast Starlight. Soon after, the victim was struck by the Los Angeles bound train, the CHP reported.
All 108 passengers on board and the crew members escaped harm; however, commuters expected a roughly two-hour delay due to the crash.
The Amtrak police department arrived with local law enforcement to investigate the crash.
According to reports, the unidentified victim died after being transported out of the scene. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the ultimate cause.
