Ryan Labreck Killed, Thomas Aripa Arrested in Highway 2 DUI Crash at South Christensen Road
MEDICAL LAKE, WA (December 20, 2018) – A military veteran was killed Wednesday morning in a three-car DUI crash on Highway 2 at South Christensen Road.
Ryan Labreck, who served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, was identified as the 36-year-old victim who perished in the collision.
The incident happened along Highway 2, just three miles west of Airway Heights around 7:30 a.m.
According to Washington State Troopers, Labreck was heading westbound on Highway 2, attempting a turn onto South Christensen Road, when his 2016 Subaru Crosstrek was hit by a vehicle. The impact subsequently pushed the Subaru into the eastbound lane, where the Subaru struck a pickup truck head-on.
Labreck, of Spokane, was killed in the collision and pronounced dead at the scene. A family of four including, two children, inside the truck also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Thomas Aripa, the 45-year-old motorist who struck the Subaru, was unharmed and was said to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The alleged DUI driver who holds one previous felony charge from 2007 was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
Authorities are investigating this crash further to determine the liabilities.
