Russell Bomgardner Dies After Plowing Into Fallen Tree on Highway 74 at Blackburn Road
HEMET, CA (January 16, 2019) – Friends and family are mourning the loss of a beloved man who plowed into a fallen tree on Highway 74 at Blackburn Road Friday.
The crash took place a quarter of a mile west of the Cranston fire station.
According to California Highway Patrol, crews were dispatched to the scene around 10 p.m. after receiving reports that a red Ford Ranger pickup truck smashed into a fallen tree. Nine-one-one callers indicated that the tree had been knocked down moments before and was blocking the winding two-lane mountain roadway.
A man was trapped inside the mangled truck, and firefighters had to extricate the victim before pronouncing him dead shortly after.
Two people inside a Honda CRV suffered minor injuries after crashing into the fallen tree, as well.
Russell Bomgardner was identified as the fallen victim. A GoFundMe page was created to help raise funds for his memorial service.
