WOODLAND HILLS, CA (November 22, 2019) — A woman died Thursday morning when a vehicle struck her along Highway 101 near Desoto Avenue, just moments after crashing her car.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident unfolded just before 5:00 a.m.
A woman operating a 2019 Toyota 86 sedan lost control of the vehicle in the No. 4 lane for unexplained reasons. She subsequently crashed her Toyota into the center divider before the vehicle came to a stop in the No. 1 and 2 lanes.
Authorities are investigating why the 26-year-old woman exited her car and stood in the No. 1 lane, where an oncoming 2001 Nissan Frontier, whose driver tried avoiding an impending crash, struck her and her Toyota.
As a result, the woman died at the scene. Rufino Batres Moran, of Van Nuys and the driver of the Nissan, suffered minor injuries after complaining of back pain. In addition, a vehicle ruptured into flames, yet it is unclear which vehicle caught on fire.
