Saul Figueroa Arrested after Hit-and-Run Crash on 71st Avenue in Phoenix
Phoenix, AZ (May 28, 2023) – Sunday morning, 23-year-old Rubi Lopez died in a hit-and-run crash on 71st Avenue and Thomas Road.
Subsequently, police arrested 18-year-old Saul Figueroa.
The fatal hit-and-run crash on 71st Avenue in Phoenix happened just after 4 a.m. on May 28.
Phoenix Police said they found a woman in the roadway with obvious signs of trauma. She died at the crash scene.
A passenger in Lopez’s car was treated for minor injuries.
According to reports, Lopez had crossed 71st Avenue near Thomas Road on a green light just before the accident occurred. Figueroa’s car was traveling north on 71st Avenue and ran a red light before colliding with Lopez’s vehicle.
Figueroa then immediately left the scene. He was later taken into custody at his home.
Police believe impairment is involved.
