LAKEPORT, CA (April 10, 2019) – A passenger in a vehicle died in Monday’s single-car accident on Nice-Lucerne Cutoff near Rodman Slough Bridge.
According to Lt. Corey Paulich of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Ruben James Foreman was the victim who died in the crash.
California Highway Patrol officers believe Foreman was the passenger in a gold 1994 Acura Integra. Anthony R. Lopez, 18, of Lucerne was driving the Acura northbound on Nice-Lucerne Cutoff during cloudy and rainy conditions.
However, as Lopez tried negotiating a left curve, he subsequently lost control of the vehicle. The Acura traveled in an easterly direction before crashing into a wooden fence around 4:28 p.m.
According to CHP, Foreman – seated in the right-front passenger seat – suffered major injuries. Upon arrival, firefighters found him unresponsive with major facial trauma.
Soon after, medics transported him to Sutter Lakeside Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In addition to those hurt, a juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries while Lopez escaped harm.
Authorities are continuing their investigation of this deadly crash to determine the prior events and details.
