Rosalio Gutierrez, Francisco Gomez, Blandina Gomez and Child Hospitalized Following Highway 101 Car Accident Near Cat Canyon Road That Left Teen Dead

LOS ALAMOS, CA (December 3, 2019)—Saturday night’s two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 near Cat Canyon Road left a 16-year-old boy dead and four others with minor injuries.

The incident unfolded at approximately 6 p.m. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol and paramedics arrived at the scene after receiving word of a two-car crash.

Investigators learned that 46-year-old Rosalio Gutierrez tried turning left onto Northbound Highway 101 from Cat Canyon Road; however, as she accelerated at an unknown speed onto the highway, a silver 2002 Honda Accord—driven by 50-year-old Francisco J. Gomez—struck her blue 2004 Toyota Camry.

According to reports, the Honda Accord had been traveling roughly 65 miles per hour when it plowed into the Toyota Camry’s left side.

A 16-year-old boy from Oxnard sitting in the left rear passenger seat of the Toyota sustained severe injuries. As a result, he died at Marian Regional Medical Center.

Gomez, of Parlier; Gutierrez, of Oxnard; 38-year-old Oxnard resident, Blandina Gomez; as well as an 11-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries. They all received treatment at Marian hospital.

In their investigation, authorities ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the collision. However, CHP officers are looking into whether the 16-year-old boy was properly restrained by a seatbelt.
