Placerville Motorcycle Crash Leaves Ronald Gillespie Dead
Placerville, CA (September 29, 2020) – On Sunday, 67-year-old Ronald Gillespie of Placerville died in a motorcycle crash on Gold Hill Road and Lotus Road.
The fatal motorcycle crash happened at around 3:20 p.m., wherein a pickup truck struck the Harley-Davidson the victim was driving through an intersection in the Gold Hill area.
The Placerville office of the CHP said Gillespie was driving northbound on Lotus Road as he approached the intersection. At the same time, an 18-year-old Rafael Reynaga, also of Placerville, was driving a 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. He pulled out after being stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Gold Hill and Lotus roads.
The pickup truck struck the victim’s motorcycle. Gillespie was thrown from his Harley-Davidson as the result of the impact.
Moreover, officers are investigating why Reynaga pulled into the path of the victim. Also, Reynaga said he did not see the motorcycle.
Meanwhile, Reynaga and a passenger in the Dodge pickup truck, 18-year-old Marlene Magdaleno, from Placerville, were not injured in the crash.
Gillespie “had no time to react” to the vehicle that suddenly appeared in his path, said the CHP. Just then, the pickup front struck his motorcycle.
Furthermore, the authorities continue to investigate the crash. It was not mentioned if drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.
