1 Dead and 1 Arrested after Manteca Bicycle Accident on Main Street
MANTECA, CA (January 7, 2020) – A person died and another got arrested after a bicycle accident on Main Street on January 5.
The incident occurred in the 1100 block of South Main Street at about 11:15 p.m. When the officers arrived, some concerned citizens aided the bicyclist out of the road. Meanwhile, the driver escaped.
Responders tried to administer lifesaving efforts on the bicycle rider. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
Police managed to track down the hit-and-run driver. They identified him as 36-year-old Robert James. The police booked James into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, and felony DUI.
The identity of the victim remains unreleased due to pending family notification.
