Robert Gruber Dies in Highway 7 Crash With Logging Truck Near Highway 161
LA GRANDE, WA (May 2, 2019) – A motorcyclist died Tuesday when he lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 7 near Highway 161 before being hit by a logging truck.
According to Washington State Troopers, Robert Gruber lost control of his southbound Yamaha XVS1300 just before noon.
Troopers are still unsure why he lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic where a northbound logging truck driver struck him.
Gruber, of Spanaway, died as a result of the crash. The 58-year-old Mineral man operating the truck who was unable to stop in time escaped injury.
Due to the cleanup and investigations, officials closed off Highway 7 for several hours.
