Hit-and-Run Road Rage Driver Flees Major-Injury Accident in Hemet
HEMET, CA (July 8, 2019) – Two people suffered injuries in a hit-and-run road rage crash on South State Street, Monday afternoon.
The accident involved two vehicles — a white Chevy S10 pickup truck and a compact vehicle that fled the scene shortly after.
Around 2:23 p.m., witnesses reported seeing the white pickup veer off the road and strike a nearby power pole. More calls eventually followed stating that power lines had toppled down near a field and ignited a vegetation fire as a result.
Superior Ready Mix employees and other workers ran for safety while some tried extinguishing the blaze.
Officials later found the white Chevy with significant front-end damage upon arrival. A power pole lay near it, and citizens came rushing to help put out the fire with buckets of water.
According to reports, the Chevy driver and his female passenger self-extricated themselves from the heap of metal. Witnesses also rushed to their aides.
Medical crews brought both victims to University Health System in Moreno Valley for further treatment. The man reportedly suffered a broken leg and a shoulder injury. The woman also suffered broken ribs; however, both are expected to make a full recovery.
Following an interview with the Chevy driver, officials also learned that a compact vehicle cut off the truck near the intersection of Menlo Avenue. From there, both drivers engaged in an altercation along South State Street.
The driver of the compact vehicle subsequently rammed into the Chevy’s rear and applied a PIT maneuver. This caused the pickup to lose control and eventually veer off the east side of South State Street. The pickup then mowed down a power pole while the other driver fled the scene.
Furthermore, officers are still currently searching for the driver, described as a Middle Eastern man with a beard. His vehicle was also described as a light-colored compact older model Toyota or Lexus.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked to clear the wreckage. However, the roadway has since reopened.
Road rage is a common factor in car accidents. If you’re enraged due to another driver, always remain calm and remember that it’s not worth the consequences. In addition, road rage driving often leads to dangerous accidents.
