Richard Smith of Corning Dies in Big Rig Crash on County Road 99 West [Glenn County, CA]

Glenn County, CA (March 15, 2022) – On Monday, a 59-year-old Corning man, Richard Smith, lost his life in a big rig crash on  County Road 99 West.

The fatal collision took place at about 6 a.m. at County Road 7.

Officers say 61-year-old Chico man, Veron McGuire, was driving a northbound big rig on County Road 99W toward County Road 7. 

At the same time, Smith was driving a southbound 2009 Nissan north of County Road 7. 

McGuire turned west onto County Road 7 and drove directly into the path of Smith. 

Then, the front of McGuire’s vehicle collided with the left front side of Smith’s vehicle. 

Afterward, Smith’s Nissan collided with a power pole at the southwest intersection. 

Officers say Smith was not wearing his seatbelt during the accident. Unfortunately, he died at the scene.
