Richard Burns Dies, Esteban Martinez Involved in Pedestrian Accident on Stony Point Road at Barndance Lane
SANTA ROSA, CA (March 21, 2019) – A pedestrian accident Wednesday on Stony Point Road at Barndance Lane tragically claimed a man’s life.
According to Santa Rosa police, a silver Chevrolet Cruze struck the pedestrian as he crossed Stony Point Road from west to east around 7 a.m.
The impact hurled the man into a mailbox, impaling his backpack onto the front fender of the vehicle and sending one of his shoes across the street. While the car sustained a broken windshield and front-end damage, 53-year-old Richard Anthony Burns suffered fatal injuries.
The coroner has yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role. According to reports, officers determined 18-year-old Esteban Garcia Martinez – the driver of the Chevy Cruze – as not impaired at the time.
In the investigation, officials determined that Burns crossed outside of a designated crosswalk at the time. Following the crash, Martinez stopped his vehicle and cooperated with police officers.
Now, loved ones are remembering the Santa Rosa man as fun-loving and caring toward anyone with whom he came in contact.
Because the details of this crash are limited, authorities are investigating this incident further.
With deepest sympathies, we would like to express our thoughts of courage and strength to the family and friends of Richard Anthony Burns.
