Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Old Spanish Trail in Vail

Vail, AZ  (October 3, 2023) – On Saturday evening, 57-year-old Raymond Smith died in a crash on Old Spanish Trail.

The fatal crash on Old Spanish Trail happened at 7:45 p.m. on September 30.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) responded to an accident between a motorcycle and a vehicle that occurred on Old Spanish Trail, west of Pistol Hill Road.

Troopers identified the motorcyclist as 57-year-old Raymond Smith. He reportedly suffered serious injuries and later died at the hospital.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

According to PCSD, both vehicles were in the same lane and traveling in opposite directions uphill near the top line of a hill.
