Speeding Rider Dies after Crash with SUV in Ramona
RAMONA, CA (May 1, 2019) – A motorcyclist was killed following a collision with an SUV Wednesday afternoon in Ramona.
The fatal collision happened around 12:50 p.m. at the intersection of San Vicente Road and Vista Vicente Way.
According to reports, a 2001 Yamaha R-1 was heading eastbound on San Vicente Road at a high rate of speed. As it approached the intersection, it hit the driver’s side of a 2018 Lincoln SUV that entered the roadway.
Two passing motorists stopped to perform CPR on the badly injured rider, and Cal Fire San Diego personnel took over when they arrived, but their life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.
The rider, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
The 82-year-old man driving the SUV was unharmed.
Witnesses told officers the rider was doing wheelies and veering dangerously around slower-moving eastbound vehicles just prior to the crash.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
