Merced County Motorcycle Crash Injured Ralph Stevenson
Merced County, CA (November 5, 2020) – On Tuesday, 77-year-old Ralph Stevenson of Atwater was injured in a motorcycle crash on Ashby Road.
The accident took place after 5:30 p.m. in the area of Beachwood Drive.
Stevenson was traveling on a Triumph motorcycle westbound on Ashby Road, approaching the intersection with Beachwood Drive.
At the same time, an unidentified driver driving a white 1997 to 2001 Honda Prelude was moving southbound on Beachwood. For unknown reasons, failed to stop at a posted stop sign. The vehicle yielded the right-of-way to the motorcycle rider and drover directly into his path of travel.
As a result, the motorcycle crashed with the front left of the Honda, causing Stevenson to be thrown to the roadway.
The front bumper came off the Honda.
Further, witnesses said the Honda immediately drove away on Ashby Street but returned so a passenger could retrieve the bumper.
Then, the Honda departed northbound on Beachwood Drive. Authorities said the vehicle’s passenger was described as a heavyset adult male with short shaved hair.
Rescuers airlifted Stevenson to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, the CHP is asking for assistance in locating the driver and passenger of the Honda Prelude. Please contact Officer M. Carvajal by calling the Merced CHP Area Office at 209-356-6600 if you have further details about the incident.
When driving a motorcycle, it’s important to follow the posted speed limit and to yield to other drivers during uncertain driving situations.
We may not always know what other drivers are thinking. However, if we approach situations with care, we’ll have a likelier chance of averting a collision.
