SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 10, 2019) – A 48-year-old Rajah Olaguer was critically injured following a hit-and-run crash Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened around 12:57 p.m. at the intersection of 16th and Bryant streets.
According to witnesses, the driver of a black Mercedes-Benz was stopped at a red light behind another car, then abruptly sped into oncoming traffic and hit Olaguer who was in the crosswalk.
Paramedics arrived and transported the victim to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Olaguer sustained several injuries to his brain, a crushed femur and five broken ribs. He was in a medically induced coma.
Meanwhile, the hit-and-run suspect remains at-large as of Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
When a car collides with a pedestrian, there is an extremely high potential for serious injury, even death. Thus, it is imperative for drivers to follow simple rules for safety. Pay attention to crosswalks, making sure pedestrians are not crossing the road before passing through the crosswalk. Observe traffic controls and yield to pedestrians already crossing the road even if not at the crosswalk.
