Rafael Marchan of Wildomar Dies in Rear-End Crash on Interstate 15 [Lake Elsinore, CA]

Lake Elsinore, CA (January 29, 2022) – On Friday, 29-year-old Rafael Marchan of Wildomar sustained fatal injuries in a rear-end crash on Interstate 15.

It was about 9:15 p.m. when the fatal big rig collision took place on the southbound freeway south of Franklin Street.

Investigating officers said a big rig driver pulled over to see the noise coming from the rear of his trailer.

Then, Marchan in a 2006 Honda Accord drove into the right shoulder and rear-ended the big rig at about 60 mph. 

Marchan’s vehicle was crushed underneath the trailer while the big rig’s driver was trapped in the driver’s seat.

Unfortunately, Marchan died at the scene. Officers said he was wearing his seatbelt when the accident happened.

On the other hand, the big rig driver, a 45-year-old Victorville man did not sustain injuries from the collision.
