Man Hit by Vehicle During Frederick Frazier’s Vigil on Normandie Avenue
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 11, 2018) – A pedestrian was struck by a hit-and-run driver during a vigil on Manchester Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.
LAPD stated that the crash occurred about 1:05 PM when 30 to 40 people were at the intersection of Normandie and Manchester Avenues for the vigil remembering 22-year-old Frederick Frazier. All lanes of traffic in the area were blocked at the time. Frazier was a cyclist who was killed a day earlier when he was struck by the driver of a white Porsche Cayenne.
An older-model gold Toyota sedan with license plate number 8BUK639 was seen trying to push through the cyclists and the crowd. The Toyota took off but returned, speeding through a red light at the intersection. That was when it struck a pedestrian, identified as Quatrell Stallings, who was thrown in the air because of the impact.
Stallings appeared to be conscious but was visibly bleeding from the head. Paramedics rendered treatment at the site before transferring Stallings to a local hospital for further treatment. He sustained head injuries, a broken leg, a broken arm, and crushed ribs. He is expected to recover.
A news crew member, Gary Reyes, was also nearly struck by the Toyota. The vehicle did not stop after striking the pedestrian and continued westbound on Manchester Avenue. The pedestrian was able to get up and limped toward the sidewalk where others rushed to help him. The car also narrowly missed several other pedestrians and a dog.
LAPD is urging the suspect to come forward and surrender. Investigators are looking at local businesses and homes to look for video footage of the hit-and-run car. Witness statements also help with the investigation; if you have additional information, contact the police.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help Stalling’s with his medical bills. Click on the link to donate.
