Injuries Reported in Brownsville Pedestrian Accident on 6500 Pierre Avenue
BROWNSVILLE, TX (January 30, 2024) – Saturday morning, 21-year-old Porfirio Zuniga was detained in a hit-and-run crash on 6500 Pierre Avenue.
The crash happened at 11:00 a.m. on 6500 Pierre Avenue.
As a result, a 26-year-old individual sustained major injuries to their lower extremities after an intentional vehicle assault in their driveway.
The victims, aged 26 and 22, reported to authorities that a grey SUV driven by Zuniga passed in front of their home, creating a disturbance by revving the engine and screeching its tires.
Curious about the commotion, both victims walked to the sidewalk to investigate. However, their attempt to understand the situation took a dangerous turn when Zuniga allegedly drove the vehicle toward them at high speed, attempting to run them over. Fortunately, quick reactions from the victims allowed them to evade the oncoming vehicle.
Despite successfully avoiding the initial attack, the victims faced further danger when the suspect allegedly pursued them into their driveway, deliberately striking them. The 26-year-old victim was unable to escape the impact, sustaining significant injuries, while the 22-year-old managed to jump onto the hood, preventing more serious harm.
Emergency services promptly transported the injured 26-year-old to a local hospital for treatment. Subsequent investigations led deputies to locate the suspect’s vehicle at a residence on the 6100 block of Southmost Road. After obtaining consent from Zuniga’s family to search the residence, authorities received a call at 2 p.m. from the family, indicating the suspect’s desire to turn himself in.
Following this development, officers booked the suspect into the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center and await arraignment on charges related to the intentional vehicle assault. The authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this disturbing incident.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
