PLACERVILLE, CA (January 17, 2019) – Three people, including a 1-year-old child, were killed Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Camino Heights Drive.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly event unfolded at 6:30 p.m. on the eastbound side of the highway, just three miles east of Placerville.
A driver of one of the vehicles reportedly lost control and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on.
In the car that lost control, a man and a 1-year-old girl were ejected. The man died at the scene and the child was brought to a hospital where she later died. A woman, also an occupant of the same vehicle, died in the crash. The driver of the other vehicle, described as a 39-year-old male from Pollock Pines, was airlifted to a trauma hospital with major injuries.
Investigators believe speed and slick road conditions might have played a role in the collision.
