Peter Lusa, Jaxon Lusa, Delores Preitas and Peter Vadakin Involved in Multi-Car Crash on Highway 255 Near New Navy Base Road
SAMOA, CA (March 7, 2019) – Three people suffered minor to major injuries following Tuesday’s multi-car crash on Highway 255 near New Navy Base Road.
Around 6 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a multi-car accident.
Arriving crews learned that a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado heading east collided with a westbound 2011 Toyota Tacoma that swerved into its lane. Fortunately, 32-year-old Peter Vadakin, of Eureka, was able to dodge the Tacoma; however, the Tacoma struck a 2006 Volkswagen Beetle traveling behind the Chevrolet.
Delores Preitas, the 26-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, suffered major injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics transported her to St. Joseph Hospital. Meanwhile, Peter Lusa, 49, and Jaxon Lusa, 12, suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment at the same hospital.
Officers arrested Peter Lusa for suspicion of impaired driving, yet investigators learned that he might have suffered a medical condition prior to the crash.
Later, officials confirmed that alcohol and drugs did not play a role.
