Male Pedestrian Hospitalized After Crash on State Street in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, CA (March 8, 2024) – On Friday, a male pedestrian sustained injuries in a crash on State Street.

A serious traffic collision occurred at 3:10 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of northbound State Street and Plaza Avenue, just outside La Cumbre Mall.

A small bus, carrying senior citizens back to their community, struck a pedestrian. 

A man in his 50s made contact with the front of the bus and was thrown approximately 15 feet from the sidewalk.

Emergency services transported the victim to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. 

A witness at the scene, an employee at a nearby hotel, reported that the victim shouted and lost consciousness after being hit.

The collision heavily affected northbound traffic, which did not reopen until about 5:30 p.m. 

Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) were present at the scene, taking numerous photos and aerial footage with a quadcopter.
