Person Dies in Merced Pedestrian Accident
MERCED, CA (November 18, 2019)—A man died in a pedestrian accident Sunday morning along Highway 59 near Bellevue Road.
According to reports, the man believed to be 25 years old was meandering northbound on the right shoulder of the highway. Meanwhile, a 59-year-old man from Merced operating a 1970 Case Tractor southbound on the highway at speeds of 18 to 20 mph tried avoiding the pedestrian who, for unexplained reasons, walked into the tractor’s path.
The driver swerved to avoid an impending accident but grew unsuccessful.
Authorities investigating the crash have thus far determined that alcohol and drugs did not play a role; however, it’s uncertain whether the pedestrian had been impaired at the time.
We would like to express our deepest thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
