Person Dies in Pedestrian Accident With SMART Train on Redwood Drive
ROHNERT PARK, CA (July 16, 2019) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a SMART train on Redwood Drive near Golf Course Drive on Monday.
According to Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Crum, the pedestrian died following the 4:10 p.m. accident that occurred across from the Outback Steakhouse.
The police department urged commuters to avoid the scene at the tracks as they handled an investigation.
Per reports, this fatality marks the fifth one since June 27. Four of the fatal pedestrian accidents befell in or near the area while the other one occurred last week in Santa Rosa.
Authorities have yet to determine the preceding events of Monday’s crash and the person’s identity.
However, witnesses on the train have confirmed that the train did blow its whistle before it followed with the collision. Also, an engineer had activated an emergency braking system before a text alert from SMART was received indicating that a pedestrian had been struck.
