Man Fatally Struck by Pickup in Fresno
FRESNO, CA (July 30, 2019) – A driver fatally struck one victim and injured another in a pedestrian accident near West Shields Avenue Saturday.
According to police, a 64-year-old man was allegedly pushing a 60-year-old man in a wheelchair near the intersection around 1:00 a.m. Suddenly, a pickup truck driver struck the pair as they crossed the street.
According to the driver, he failed to see the two men prior to the accident, saying the pedestrians were crossing outside of a marked crosswalk; however, despite these claims, authorities plan on investigating the details more closely.
Both seriously injured patients sought treatment at Community Regional Medical Center, where the 64-year-old victim died. The other victim currently remains hospitalized with critical injuries.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked on preliminary duties. However, the roadway has since reopened.
During this time, officials plan to sort through the details and the circumstances that drove this crash.
