Driver Dies in Two-Vehicle Collision in Pacoima
PACOIMA, CA (January 7, 2019) – A 43-year-old man lost his life Sunday in a two-vehicle collision in the 10100 block of North San Fernando Road near Osborne Street.
Authorities say the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. and resulted in a temporary closure of the Metrolink’s Antelope Valley Line; however, no train was involved in the incident.
Witnesses informed authorities that they saw a white vehicle veer onto the wrong side of San Fernando Road before crashing into the second car. The impact of the crash sent the second vehicle through a fence onto the Whiteman Airport property, with the 43-year-old man being temporarily pinned inside the vehicle.
Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the scene around 8:36 a.m. The man was subsequently extricated and pronounced dead at the scene. The 73-year-old woman in the other car was immediately brought a hospital in critical condition. There were no passengers inside either vehicle.
Investigators have yet to determine whether speed was a factor in this crash.
