Oscar Zepeda Suffers Serious Injuries in Interstate 17 Multi-Vehicle Crash [Grant County, WA]

Grant County, WA (March 13, 2022) – On March 11, at 6:15 p.m., 24-year-old Oscar Zepeda and 27-year-old Melbin Quezada-Carrera sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 17.

According to the investigators, 30-year-old Jorge Gomez-Avevedo was driving a 2002 Chevy Silverado. He was southbound with his passengers 27-year-old Melbin Quezado-Carrera, and 24-year-old Oscar Zepeda.

Unfortunately, Gomez-Acevedo failed to stop at a sign and rear ended a a 2016 Toyota Camry driven by 33-year-old Tiffany Hymas. Reports say Hymas was stopped and about to make a left turn onto Road 10 Southeast.

Gomez-Acevedo’s vehicle was spun into the freeway’s northbound lane and struck by a 2021 Kenworth big rig by 39-year-old James Lewis.

Moreover, the paramedics airlifted Zepeda with serious injuries. 

WSP Trooper John Bryant says, “Mr. Zapeda had a lot more serious injuries, so we had to shut down the roadway, and bring in a helicopter, he was life-lifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center, with some very serious head injuries.” 

The officers added that Zapeda was not wearing a seat belt during the accident.

Similarly, the paramedics took Gomez-Acevedo and Quezada-Carrera to Samaritan Hospital. 

There is no no word if Hymas sustained injuries from the collision. Reports say she drove away from the scene.

Meanwhile, the authorities say that charges for Gomez-Acevedo are are pending. 

WSP added that driving too fast caused the collision.
