San Luis Obispo Man Critically Injured in Collision with Vehicle on Highway 101
CUESTA SUMMIT, CA (July 16, 2019) – Authorities identified 29-year-old Orion Tyler Ross of San Luis Obispo as the man critically injured in a crash on Highway 101, Tuesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 6:25 PM. Due to unknown reasons, a black Toyota four-runner was heading north in the slow lane when it suddenly turned left. There, the Toyota entered the fast lane and collided with a southbound vehicle.
The impact of the crash caused the Toyota to overturn several times across the southbound lanes. Ross, who was not wearing a seatbelt, got ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders transported Ross to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. Meanwhile, the other driver, a 29-year-old Paso Robles man, cooperated with investigators.
Investigators believe that Ross attempted to turn left into the brake check area of the Cuesta Summit. CHP continues to investigate other contributing factors.
