Afternoon Head-On Crash on Highway 99 in Yuba City Kills 1 and Badly Injures Another
YUBA CITY, CA (August 4, 2019) – One person was killed following a head-on crash Sunday afternoon in Yuba City, officials said.
The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on southbound Highway 99 at Messick Road.
According to the CHP, a silver Lexus was heading northbound in the left lane of Highway 99 when for unknown reasons, it abruptly cut over hard to the left, colliding head-on into an SUV that was traveling in the southbound left lane.
The impact caused both vehicles to burst into flames.
A witness of the crash was able to pull out the SUV driver from the burning car. That driver was then taken to a nearby hospital with major injuries.
Sadly, the Lexus driver was killed in the crash.
Both drivers were the only occupant in their vehicles.
Highway 99 was closed in both directions but has since reopened.
No identifying information is being released at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
