Man Killed, Another Hurt in Fresno Pedestrian Collision on West Avenue near Shields Avenue
FRESNO, CA (July 29, 2019) – One man died and another was left in critical condition after a pedestrian collision on Sunday, July 28.
At about 1 a.m., a 64-year-old man pushed a 60-year-old man in a wheelchair on West Avenue near Shields Avenue. They were going west and not using the crosswalk when a vehicle hit them, Lt. Stephen Viveros stated.
The 45-year-old driver of the pickup told the police he did not notice the men in the road. The 64-year-old died and paramedics rushed the other man to the hospital. Police was still trying to find out who was at fault in the collision. However, they confirmed the pedestrians violated the law by crossing a street outside a crosswalk.
The driver of the truck cooperated with the investigation.
The identities of those involved were not yet available on Sunday. Viveros said it was unknown how the two pedestrians were related.
We would like to send our deepest thoughts and sympathies to the friends and family of the victim.
