Olivia Mena Fatally Hit by Driver on East Grant Road Near North Stone Avenue
TUCSON, AZ (January 30, 2020) — A woman’s life was cut short following a Jan. 21 pedestrian accident on East Grant Road near North Stone Avenue.
According to police, the deadly crash took place on East Ground Road around 6:30 a.m. Tucson fire crews arrived to provide aid to the seriously injured pedestrian.
Paramedics later brought the female to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. However, medical efforts fell short as 50-year-old Olivia R. Mena died from her severe injuries.
Authorities eventually learned that a 2015 Toyota Tacoma, heading eastbound on East Grant Road in the center lane, struck Mena. Just seconds prior, a vehicle in front of the Tacoma pickup suddenly swerved to the right. As it did so, Mena, who had already been crossing, intervened into the Tacoma’s direction of travel.
Authorities do not believe impairment or speed played a role, and no citations or charges have been issued at this time.
Details as to where the fault lies demands more investigation.
To the family and friends mourning the loss of Olivia R. Mena, we would like to send our deepest condolences and hope you find strength and courage in your loved ones.
