Gardena Police Department Motorcycle Officer Dies after Collision with Vehicle near 238th Street
HARBOR CITY, CA (November 14, 2018) – A Gardena Police Department officer has died a day after he was critically injured in a motorcycle crash near 238th Street. The victim was later identified as 34-year-old Toshio Hirai.
As per reports, the incident happened on South Western Avenue, at about 7:50 AM. Hirai was on his way to work when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle.
The officer was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in serious condition and underwent surgery. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical professionals. The 17-year-old girl driving the vehicle was also hospitalized with unspecified injuries. Further updates on her current medical condition were not immediately provided.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and to identify possible contributing factors. No arrests have been made, and neither drugs nor alcohol is believed to have played a role in the incident. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
