1 Hurt After Driver Strikes Building in Oakland
OAKLAND, CA (February 26, 2019) – One person was injured after a motorist crashed into a bakery at the corner of 5th and Brush streets Sunday morning.
The incident happened around 10 a.m. when a white car plowed into Angel Cakes, located at 5th and Brush streets. The crash caused a gas line to leak and the evacuation of patrons inside the bakery.
The incident also injured a passerby, described as a young girl who was walking with her father at the time. She was transported to a hospital as a precaution, according to Oakland Fire Department Battalion Chief Sean Laffan.
About 10 people evacuated the area due to the gas leak. The man who was driving the car was not injured in the crash.
The collision also delayed the BART tracks due to the gas leak and summoned in PG&E crews.
Authorities are investigating the ultimate cause.
