Bicyclist Noel Bascon Killed, Richard Lavalle Arrested in DUI Crash on Junipero Drive
Costa Mesa, CA (December 8, 2020) – On Monday, 12-year-old Noel Bascon died, while police arrested 59-year-old Richard Lavalle of Long Beach for the bicycle crash on Junipero Drive and Arlington Drive.
The fatal Costa Mesa accident happened before 6 P.M.
Bascon and his father were riding their bikes when the victim was struck by a pickup truck that missed a stop sign.
A passerby attempted CPR on the boy. Also, responding officers continued life-saving measures.
However, Noel Bascon died at a hospital.
Meanwhile, police arrested Lavalle at the scene.
Lavalle is held without bail, according to jail records.
Similarly, authorities also arrested Lavalle’s passenger, 56-year-old Lee Anna Diaz Murphy of Artesia on suspicion of possession of controlled substances and unlawful drug paraphernalia.
The Long Beach man is now facing murder charges as a result of the DUI car crash.
