Multiple People, Including Firefighters, Injured in Head-On Collision on Highway 299 Near Tamarack Avenue
BURNEY, CA (May 2, 2019) – Nearly a dozen people, including firefighters, were injured in Tuesday’s head-on collision on Highway 299 near Tamarack Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a truck shuttling members of a U.S. Forest Service hotshot crew collided with a 1996 Lexus after the sedan crossed into the opposing traffic lane.
It appears the Lexus was traveling east when it struck the westbound Forest Service truck around 4:45 p.m.
As a result of the accident, the 2008 International service truck overturned on the highway’s embankment.
Nearly a dozen people suffered minor to major injuries.
Philip Taylor, 31, and Patrick Larkin, 28 – two passengers in the Forest Service truck – suffered major injuries. The Lexus driver, identified as 66-year-old Linda L. Corr of McArthur, also suffered major injuries.
While paramedics brought Corr and Taylor to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, Larkin was transported to Shasta Regional Medical Center.
Eight other patients who sought treatment at St. Elizabeth’s in Red Bluff suffered less severe injuries including the 36-year-old Forest Service truck driver, Isaac Obst.
According to CHP, several others sustained minor injuries including Chris Graves, 33; Michael Cagle, 27; Andrew Edens, 26; Jon Lindquist, 28; Courtney Wismer, 29; Daniel Robinson, 33; and Stephani Kopfman, 25.
Approximately two hours after the crash, the highway remained blocked due to investigation and clean up. However, authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the crash.
