Teen Scooter Rider Hit, Injured by Driver in National City
NATIONAL CITY, CA (January 10, 2019) – A 15-year-old riding a scooter in the 600 block of East 30th Street near Highland Avenue was struck and injured by a vehicle Wednesday night.
The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. Police are unsure whether the teen was riding the scooter in the bike lane, in the traffic lanes or crossing a crosswalk at the time since there are two located near the crash site.
The 15-year-old was ushered to UCSD Medical Center with superficial injuries, say police. Witnesses added that the victim suffered injuries to his head, and the crash damaged the scooter into multiple pieces.
Police believe the rider should have been wearing a helmet since he is under 18 years old. The driver of the vehicle stayed and was questioned by officers.
