Narayan Sanwal ID’d as Fatal Victim in High-Speed Rollover Collision on San Pablo Avenue Near Road 20

SAN PABLO, CA (November 29, 2018) – A 29-year-old El Sobrante man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash on San Pablo Avenue near Road 20 following a high-speed police pursuit early Tuesday.

Narayan Sanwal, of El Sobrante, was identified as the 29-year-old suspect fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy in the East Bay area.

Just after midnight, a deputy spotted a gold Lexus at the intersection of San Pablo Dam Road and Mifflin Avenue after noticing the driver blow through a red light at roughly 50 mph. A police pursuit subsequently transpired and reached speeds at 100 mph, prompting deputies to suspend the pursuit for safety reasons.

According to a Sheriff’s Office, nearly 12 seconds later, the deputy found a vehicle that reportedly overturned multiple times and landed on its roof, trapping the driver inside.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Sanwal, died at the scene. It was not clear why Sanwal was fleeing from police to begin with, but officials are investigating this incident further.
