2 Dead in Coryell County Auto Accident on Interstate 14
CORYELL COUNTY, TX (July 18, 2023) – Early Monday morning, Nakoda Cheyenne Layton and another person died in a brutal single-vehicle crash on Interstate 14.
The crash happened just before 1:20 a.m. on Interstate 14, just inside the Coryell County line from Bell County.
According to DPS Sgt Bryan Washko, 18-year-old Layton of Troy drove a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 truck. As they traveled east on I-14, he failed to control the truck in a single lane and veered off the roadway.
Then, the truck went down an embankment and rolled over.
As a result, Layton and a 17-year-old juvenile were ejected from the vehicle since both of them were unrestrained. Also, responders declared them both dead at the scene.
DPS troopers also reminded drivers to “always buckle up, noting that it is no longer a state law but it will greatly reduce the probability of serious injury if involved in a traffic crash.”
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
Sweet Lawyers extends our condolences to the family and community of the victims.
