Doug Palmer of Santa Maria Dies in Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5 [Buellton, CA]

Driver Injured in I-5 Deadly Crash

Buellton, CA (October 5, 2024) – Doug Palmer, 74, of Santa Maria, was killed in a vehicle crash on Interstate 5 Monday afternoon.

It was about 12:34 p.m. when the fatal crash happened between Buellton and Los Alamos.

Officers said an Audi driven by  Kathleen Palmer, 76, also of Santa Maria, crashed about 75 feet over the side of the highway in the Woodchopper Hill area.

Troopers said the Audi traveled off the east roadway edge, down the dirt embankment, and overturned at the bottom of the embankment.

Responding officers declared Doug Palmer deceased at the scene while Kathleen Palmer a female was airlifted to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria with major injuries.
