Rider Dies in Collision With Box Truck in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 1, 2019) – A motorcyclist died Tuesday morning following a collision with a box truck on the 80 Freeway near Fremont Street.
The incident took place around 7:35 a.m. and resulted in a four-hour backup for commuters on the Bay Bridge.
According to California Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed, westbound on the 80 Freeway. Upon spotting the rider, a motorcycle cop tried pulling the motorcyclist over. However, the rider, whose bike had no rear license plate, sped up.
As the motorcyclist zigzagged through five lanes of traffic, the rider subsequently plowed into a box truck.
Unfortunately, the motorcyclist died in the crash and the San Francisco Medical Examiner has yet to release the name.
Following the accident, drivers had to navigate around the closed lanes of the Bay Bridge.
