CHP Officer Hospitalized After Crash on Highway 49 in Placer County
Placer County, CA (May 3, 2024) – On Friday, a CHP Officer sustained injuries in a crash on Highway 49.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a motorcycle officer was traveling northbound on Highway 49 near Shale Ridge Road when a driver heading southbound ran a red light at around 6:35 a.m. and collided with the officer.
The collision ejected the officer from his motorcycle, resulting in major injuries.
Emergency services transported the officer to a hospital, though his identity has not yet been released by the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the vehicle involved was unharmed and remained at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol.
Authorities have confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Due to the crash, Highway 49 was closed between Bell Road and Dry Creek Road near Auburn, as stated by Caltrans, but it has since reopened.
The crash is still under investigation.
