Michael Tinonga Hit, Killed by Cars on Highway 50 Near Ponderosa Road
SHINGLE SPRINGS, CA (March 4, 2019) – Two cars struck and killed a 33-year-old man Thursday night on Highway 50 near Ponderosa Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Michael Tinonga, of Cameron Park, was struck by a Toyota Prius in the eastbound No. 2 lane of Highway 50 around 9:30 p.m. Subsequently, a Toyota Scion traveling in the eastbound No. 1 lane struck Tinonga when he was thrown from the initial impact.
Per the CHP, Tinonga died in the crash. Crews closed the eastbound highway lanes near Cameron Park Drive for nearly two hours due to an investigation.
Because the details concerning this crash are limited, investigators are scouring for clues and evidence to determine the cause.
