Michael Smith Killed After Crashing Motorcycle on West Lilac Road Near Birdsong Drive
ESCONDIDO, CA (March 27, 2019) – A motorcycle crash on West Lilac Road near Birdsong Drive Monday evening resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man.
According to California Highway Patrol officers, the rider lost control of his 2001 Kawasaki Ninja while trying to pass another vehicle. Upon losing control, his Kawasaki veered up an embankment, overturned and launched him from the bike.
Escondido resident Michael Smith died shortly after. As a result of the accident, crews closed West Lilac Road due to investigations.
Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as possible factors in the crash. As of late, authorities are determining the ultimate cause of the collision.
