Michael Shubin Fatally Run Over, Tanya Shubin and Natalie Shubin Uninjured When SUV Brakes Fail on Kaiser Pass Road Near Forrest Service Road 5S80D
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (July 19, 2019) – A La Habra man died Wednesday when his Jeep SUV’s emergency brakes mysteriously failed, causing the vehicle to strike him on Kaiser Pass Road near Forrest Service Road 5S80D.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred in the Sierra National Forest. The Fresno County coroner’s office identified the La Habra fatal victim as Michael Shubin.
Authorities learned through questioning and investigation that around 3 p.m., Michael stopped the Jeep along Kaiser Pass Road. After setting the parking brake and stepping out of the Jeep, the Jeep began to roll forward. Immediately, Michael tried stopping the SUV as one of his passengers turned the steering wheel to the left to avoid a collision with another car.
However, things took a turn for the worse, and the Jeep overturned. Authorities believe the Jeep either ran over Michael or crushed him in between a boulder.
The 75-year-old man perished at the scene. His 74-year-old passenger Tanya Shubin and 17-year-old passenger Natalie Shubin, both from La Habra, suffered no injuries.
Circumstances appear unclear at this time. However, investigators are looking into the possibilities that drove this fatal crash including product malfunction and faulty parts.
With deepest sympathies, our firm would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Michael Shubin.
