Michael Shepard Dies After Crashing Into Caltrans Vehicle on Highway 14 Near Sand Canyon Road
SANTA CLARITA, CA (January 25, 2019) – An off-duty Los Angeles County Fire Department captain perished Wednesday morning when his car plowed into a Caltrans vehicle on Highway 14 near Sand Canyon Road.
The incident happened around 11:20 a.m. on the northbound side of Highway 14. Capt. Michael Shepard crashed his Jeep into a parked Caltrans truck in the center median. When LA County firefighters responded to the scene, they found the 63-year-old trapped inside the vehicle.
Extrication was difficult, according to authorities. Shepherd was declared dead moments later.
The father of six leaves behind his wife and seven grandchildren and his colleagues and family are remembering him as a dedicated fire captain, father and husband.
The liabilities of this crash are still under investigation by authorities.
